Getting a new bathroom can be a lot of work. Whether you’re hiring a fitter or going DIY, the process is never as simple as you might hope. The choices you make now will decide the look and style of your bathroom for years to come which is why it’s important to take your time and get this right.
With all that in mind, we’ve decided to try and make life a little easier for you. Here at Authentic Stone, we like to think we know a fair amount about tiles which is why we’ve put together this handy list of five questions to ask yourself when choosing your bathroom tiles.
What Does Your Dream Bathroom Look Like?
The first question you should always ask yourself before making any major decisions is what you want the end result to be. Bathroom tiles have a huge influence on the overall look and feel of the room so it’s good to start with a clear image of the room in mind.
Consider what kind of feeling you want your bathroom to evoke. Will it be sleek and modern, or old-fashioned and cosy? Perhaps you’re going for a more minimalist, timeless look, or else you revel in kitschy excess.
Once you’ve landed on a look, all your other bathroom decisions will get a hundred times easier.
How Big Should They Be?
When it comes to choosing the perfect bathroom tiles, size really does matter. Bathroom tiles come in all sorts of shapes and sizes depending on the look you’re going for. In many ways, this decision will set the overall tone for the room. Small, rectangular tiles can create a gorgeous, bricklike effect, while large, natural stone slabs can blend together almost seamlessly. Then, of course, you have mosaic patterns, which can give the room a pleasant texture but can also be too visually stimulating depending on the space.
What Material Do You Want To Use?
Now, when it comes to material, here at Authentic Stone, we’ll happily admit to a bias. Stone tiles are some of the most versatile and beautiful tiles you’ll ever see. They come in a variety of textures and aesthetics and are far less susceptible to wear and tear than other materials.
But of course, there are so many types of stone tiles to choose from. If you’re going for a classical, antique look, then you’ll want to take a look at marble tiles, whereas if you prefer something a little warmer then why not check out our wood effect porcelain collection?
Will Your Colour Scheme Work In Practice?
Colour schemes are all well and good in theory, but if there’s one thing everyone forgets to think about in practice it’s grout.
Oftentimes, people will go for white grout because it goes well with their colour scheme. The problem with white grout is that after a few years, dirt and mould stains begin to show. If this is a problem for you, then it’s a good idea to choose a colour scheme that will work well with grey or even black grout.
Have You Considered A Feature Wall?
Last but not least, if you haven’t thought about it already, you should definitely consider putting in a feature wall. A nice column or mosaic pattern can add a lot to the style of your room and prevent the place from looking too bland or one-note.
At the end of the day, whatever you choose, the most important thing is that you’re happy with your bathroom. So, while it can be tempting to get the work over and done with as soon as possible, it’s well worth taking the time to design a bathroom you love.
