When it comes to kitchen design, nothing says classical like white marble tiles. Commonly thought of for their association with the classical architecture of Greek and Roman buildings, modern design has often embraced marble as a shorthand for elegance and formality.
That said, the uses of white marble and white marble tiles specifically go far beyond these familiar expectations with many designers embracing it in new and interesting contexts. Today we’d like to explore those contexts and talk about how you could incorporate white marble into your kitchen design.
Accenting Colours
When many people choose white marble they do so for its bright and vibrant shade, which can be particularly great for contrasting against darker colours. That said, one popular use of marble is not for its shade but for its pattern.
If you’re using bright colours in your kitchen, white marble tiles can blend into the space, creating very little contrast. That said, if you choose marble with particularly strong patterning and match it against large block colours, that can create a contrast of its own – one that feels visually unique compared to more traditional colour contrasting.
Brightening The Room
Marble tiles also work really well in rooms with a lot of natural light, especially when complimented by more natural colours such as browns and greens. The overall effect can be one of calming simplicity – a clean and comforting space that helps you connect back to the natural world.
If you’re going for this style of kitchen, it’s also a good idea to use softer lights as lots of white will reflect any light and harsh lights could be difficult on the eyes.
Using Larger Tiles
One common argument against using white marble tiles is the worry that they’ll be more difficult to clean, but that’s far less of a concern if you use large tiles as opposed to small ones. While some other natural stones might not feel as interesting in large tile sizes, white marble is at its best when the pattern is allowed to come through and with less grout, it’s easy to give your marble tiles a quick wipe down with a cloth.
